Supervising Undergraduates: An Introduction

What do supervisions contribute to student learning at Cambridge? This session will provide an interactive introduction to supervising, including aims and objectives of supervisions, different approaches to supervisions, the roles and responsibilities of the supervisor and ways of dealing with common problems.
Target audience:
- Supervisors of undergraduate students
Duration: One session of two and a half hours
Prerequisites: In preparation for the event, please read the Supervisors/Supervisions entry in the Tutors’ Guide
Aims:
- to appreciate the function of supervisions in the undergraduate’s learning portfolio
- to understand the variety of potential functions of supervisions
- to appreciate some possible learning objectives of supervising, some approaches to the task, some common problems and their potential solutions
