Description: This course is intended for non-native speakers who wish to improve their skills in writing dissertations, research papers and reports.

Target audience:

  • Non-Native PhD and PostDocs from the Department of Engineering
  • Further details regarding Engineering Language Unit's eligibility criteria are available

Format: Class work and individual study

Frequency: Yearly

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must be a Non-native speaker

Aims: To develop fluency and build your confidence in speaking in different contexts, both formal and informal

Topics covered:

  • Pronunciation
  • Idiomatic and social English
  • Formal and informal styles of speaking
  • Discussion skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Speaking skills for a variety of business and professional contexts
  • Vocabulary including collocations and synonyms
