Description: Two Cultural Awareness Workshops

Target audience:

  • Post Docs, PhD and Mphil by Research students from the Department of Engineering
  • School of Technology if places available after priority to eligible Engineering Students
  • Further details regarding Engineering Language Unit's eligibility criteria are available

Duration: Two session of one and a half hours

  • It is recommended that both sessions are attended although attending just one of the two is possible by prior arrangement. Please e-mail smd48.

Format: Class work and participation

Frequency: Twice yearly (Michaelmas and Easter terms)

Aims:

  • To demonstrate the importance of intercultural awareness in a multicultural environment such as the University
  • To focus on the British lifestyle, considering aspects of behaviour, manners, social conventions and traditions

Topics covered:

  • Cultural awareness, both within and outwith the University environment
  • Aspects of the British lifestyle, British culture and contemporary social issues
