Time Management
PrerequisitesUpdated

Thu 27 Nov 2014

Description

Time management is not a quick fix topic and does require commitment from you. This course involves pre-course reading and exercises on time management that should take you about four weeks to complete before the scheduled face-to-face workshop. This pre-course work cannot be completed at short notice before the face-to-face workshop.
Therefore, you should only sign up to this course if you can commit to:

  • Attending the scheduled workshop
  • Spending time over one month working through the materials and exercises

This also means that cancellations cannot be accepted less than two weeks before the scheduled workshop because there is not enough time for new participants to work through the materials.

If you can commit to this, then you've taken the first step in improving your time management, and this is the course for you.

A better grasp of your time management and knowledge of associated tools and techniques can make you more effective in your research, achieving more in fewer hours and having time to relax properly.

This course is a blend of online materials that will take you through theory and exercises to allow you to try things out and make practical changes, before you attend a short face-to-face session to consolidate your learning.

The materials are written for researchers in Cambridge, and can be taken at your own pace so you can work through them, whatever your current time management practices are.

Once you have completed the course you will:

  • Have identified your time management needs
  • Have used tools and techniques to improve your time management
  • Feel more in control of your time

Topics:

  • General principles of time management
  • Know yourself
  • Prioritise what you need to do
  • Plan tasks and objectives

  • Avoid distractions and interruptions
  • Improve your academic reading
  • Manage email more effectively
