Microsoft IT Academy: Clinic 10258: SQL Server 2008: Upgrade and Application Compatibility

This modular 12-hour clinic allows you to skip to the tracks which are most relevant to you. This clinic will help you understand how to exploit the enhancements to SQL Server 2008 with little or no changes to existing applications, how to test SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 applications for compatibility with SQL Server 2008, and how to plan upgrades to SQL Server 2008.

• Participants must have real-world SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 administration experience
• Participants must have basic operational familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio
• Participants are encouraged to have real-world experience installing and supporting SQL Server applications

• Application Compatibility Testing
• Planning Your Upgrade

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Learn all the essential elements of SQL Server 2008 upgrades and application compatibility testing in an interactive instructor-led format
• Learn how to leverage important new features of SQL Server 2008 with little or no application changes
• Deep and intensive 200-300 level technical training custom-designed for quality assurance professionals, service professionals, application developers, database administrators and IT Pros
• Courseware developed by Joe Yong and his team from Scalability Experts (scalabilityexperts.com), pre-eminent experts in enterprise SQL Server upgrades and performance
• Get hands-on experience with SQL Server 2008 upgrades and application compatibility testing (not available in all locations)

To view this course, you need:

• A Pentium II, 256 MB RAM with a processor speed greater than or equal to 400 MHZ
• Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
• Macromedia Flash 7.0 or higher (1MB disk space needed to install)
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 or higher
• Microsoft XML Core Services 3.0 or higher
• A Super VGA monitor with minimum screen resolution 1024x768, with 16-bit color.
• A sound card, and either speakers or headphones (for multi-media audio).
• Internet bandwidth of 56K or faster. Broadband internet access is recommended.

For courses containing Virtual Server-based labs (courses in the IT Professional and Developer Catalog), you will need:

• Microsoft Virtual Server ActiveX control (1MB disk space needed to install)

• The following software must be running on your computer in order to access this course with Screen Reader Software:

• Window-Eyes from GW Micro
• JAWS from Freedom Scientific
• MSAA enabled
