Voice Projection: An Introduction

Description


If you occasionally suffer from vocal strain or wish to discover your true vocal range and power then this course is for you. We will work together to improve your vocal projection using vocal techniques practised by actors by using various physical and vocal exercises. We will discuss using your voice in a recording or speaking to camera and practice exercises for improved articulation. Be prepared to join in the exercises and makes some noise!

This course will be facilitated online via Zoom

Target audience

For staff involved in teaching or training:

  • University staff
  • College and Non-University Teaching Institutions teaching staff
  • Further details regarding CCTL's eligibility criteria are available here
Prerequisites
  • Participants will need to participate in the online exercises
  • Please ensure that you are in a room where you can make noise
  • Please ensure that you have enough space to stand up and do some simple physical exercises

Aims
  • to understand how and why we sound the way we do
  • to understand the causes of difficulty with and implications of unhealthy voice production
  • to be aware of how relaxation, breathing and vocal exercises can improve projection and clarity
  • to appreciate the effects of posture and tension on vocal projection
  • to understand resonance placement and the effect this has on projection, clarity and range
  • to understand how to use your voice in a recording or whilst speaking to camera
Duration

This course will be provided in two sessions with a scheduled break inbetween, as follows:

Morning session: 10:00-12:00
Scheduled break: 12:00-13:00
Afternoon session: 13:00-15:00

All participants are expected to attend both online sessions.
