Key Skills in Listening to, Communicating with and Supporting Individuals

Description


Listening, communicating and supporting effectively are vital skills for many roles throughout the University. However, they are often areas in which individuals feel under-skilled and inexperienced

This series of four sessions has been designed to increase knowledge, ability and confidence in these key areas

Learning will be through theoretical and experiential input, small and large group participation

Session 1 has been postponed due to staff illness. The first session will take place on 11 November and the last session on 9 December

  • University staff
  • College staff

Prerequisites

This course requires attendance at all four sessions

Aims
  • to understand the purpose of good listening and communicating
  • to have enhanced personal skills of listening and communicating
  • to be aware of barriers to listening and communicating
  • to feel more confident in supporting others within your role in general and in particular those who are anxious or distressed
  • to recognise appropriate limits within yourself and within your role
