Public Engagement in the 21st Century: Working with Schools
New

Wed 1 Jun 2011

Description

Working with young people is hugely enriching, academically and personally. As well as disseminating findings and sharing knowledge in order to support teaching and learning in schools, you also have the chance to inspire the next generation of researchers in your subject. In the process, you will develop the kinds of communication skills that are invaluable for your research – whether it be writing for publication, lecturing and teaching, or putting together grant applications.

The lecture will begin with a case study from other researchers to show how they have worked with schools and what the benefits were. Representatives from the Community Affairs team, who run the University’s Rising Stars programme, will then give a quick, practical guide to what to bear in mind when thinking about educational outreach. Finally, there will be a Q&A with the speakers.
