Description

Theory and practice session on safe manual handling.

Target audience
  • Anyone at the Department of Physics involved in moving or otherwise handling heavy objects that could cause injury (e.g. back pain) if handled badly

Objectives

By the end of the session, participants should be able to: • Explain what “manual handling” means • Describe how manual handling can cause injuries • Recognize good handling technique • List the principles for controlling manual handling risk • Apply these principles to a practical situation

Aims

To enable Physics staff and students to identify risks to themselves and deal with objects in such a way as to avoid manual handling injuries

Notes

Please wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy movement, with flat /stout shoes (no flip flops or high heels).

Duration

One session of two and a half hours (including a short refreshment break)
