Writing Stage - Writing Stage-Grammar and Style. Here we establish ways to improve your command of grammar and to practice different aspects related to style. A wide variety of examples are used and you will have an opportunity to do proof-reading exercises and, if you would like, to have peer proof-reading of your own work. Bring it along with you to the session. |

Writing Stage - Developing Essay Patterns. Each of your chapters/sections of work focuses on different topics. How do you signify these differences in your work? In this session we look at the variety of ways you can organise your work, specifically, comparison/contrast; specific to general; general to specific; problem and solution; and listing. We will be looking at a mixture of texts for illustrative and evaluative purposes. |

Post-Writing Stage-Editing your work for Style. This is a very important stage in your writing and is often given less time than the Writing Stage. Here we examine ways to edit your work for style including redundant language (i.e. unnecessary words or sentences), appropriate vocabulary, lengthy sentences, etc. This is a good opportunity for you to practice the skills of editing by drawing on published examples of text. You are also welcome to bring along your own work for peer-editing. |
