Dr Jessica Gardner, University Librarian and Director of Library Services, would like to invite all University Library staff, College Librarians, non-affiliated Librarians and Departmental Librarians to join one of two all staff briefings in September 2019. There will be a presentation on the Cambridge University Libraries’ strategic and financial priorities.

Cambridge University Libraries Staff : Induction Workshop: Part II new Finished 14:00 - 17:00 Cambridge University Library, IT Training Room

This is an interactive workshop, designed to help new staff learn more about the Cambridge University Library and meet some of the key people who work in it.

Staff will take part in some fun activities to learn more about other departments within the Cambridge University Libraries, have a presentation from a member of the Leadership Team about the wider workings of the University and have time to check their HR24 Induction Checklists and meet other new starters. Designed to be more informal, this workshop is a great opportunity to meet other staff, make contacts and ask any questions that you may have come across in your first month of employment.

In this session the University’s Information Compliance Officer will give a short presentation on the core provisions of data protection legislation and how these have been operating in practice since the changes introduced in May 2018. He will talk about some of the main challenges of the new legal and regulatory landscape and how they impact on various University activities, including academic research, HR and events marketing. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions.

EDI Forum Launch new Finished 12:30 - 14:00 Cambridge University Library, Milstein Room

Our commitment to EDI is explicitly stated in our Strategic Plan under Theme 5 (‘Strong foundations for the future’). We say there that we will: ‘Work towards a more flexible, diverse and inclusive working environment and foster a research and learning culture that looks outward, compares and shares ideas and encourages innovation to achieve our aims.’

Over the past year, we have been doing quite a bit of thinking about how we ensure that our approach to EDI is, literally, inclusive. As a first step, we are launching an EDI Forum which, as a Non-School Institution Equality and Diversity Champion, Kirsty Allen will chair and Natalie Deighton will co-ordinate.

Jess Gardner will launch the new Leadership Network at the two following sessions. The launch has been split between the two dates to accommodate the need for cover in Libraries and Departments. Network Goals:

1. To create structured opportunities to improve communication across our teams.

2. To help build a community of practice, sharing ideas and experience, round leadership and management for the University Libraries beyond the more formal structures of the Senior Management Group and Leadership Team.

3. To create a forum for dedicated training and development for us all, relevant to our roles as managers and leaders

Booker Briefings for All Staff new Finished 14:00 - 16:00 Cambridge University Library, Milstein Room

On the 30th September, the University Libraries began using Booker as the new booking system for meeting rooms across the Libraries.

To walk staff through the new system and to answer any questions, Rob Smith from UIS will be hosting a Booker Briefing for All Staff on Monday 25th November at 2pm - 4pm in the Milstein Room, and Thursday 5th December at 10am - 12pm.

These sessions are drop ins, so please pop along between these times as most suitable for you!

Both Briefings will be the same and are open drop in events.
