Tue 18	Leadership Advanced: The Dynamics of Leadership and Engaging Others (1 of 2) Finished 09:30 - 13:00 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room This two part interactive workshop offers those with some experience of leading and managing others the opportunity to extend their knowledge in relation to leadership and engagement of others. It will provide time to reflect on leadership values, beliefs, attitudes and style and the impact this has on leadership performance. The workshop will also explore how to motivate and engage others to achieve their full potential.
Wed 19	Recruitment Essentials: Appointing the Right Candidate Finished 09:30 - 11:30 University Centre, Cormack Room This workshop provides an opportunity for academic staff to understand the recruitment and selection process and how to create the conditions where you can recruit the best candidate and avoid common pitfalls. It includes an overview of the recruitment and selection process and identifies the key principles to ensure practice is fair to all candidates at each stage. The course is primarily aimed at academic staff involved in making selection decisions for academic roles and those with responsibility for coordinating academic recruitment procedures.
Thu 20	Level 3 Award (ILM) in Leadership and Management (4 of 7) Finished 09:30 - 16:30 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room Please note that bookings cannot be placed for the ILM. A new Inclusive Leadership Programme is starting in Michaelmas 2019 and will cover the same key areas as the ILM, including leadership styles, effective communication and effective problem solving. These will be framed within the context of making fair and consistent management decisions. Please search for 'Inclusive Leadership Programme' here on the University Training Booking System to view current events, and note that additional dates will be released. This programme offers an introduction to management skills and is externally accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM). It is highly participative and there is a strong emphasis on applying new learning to your work situation for the benefit of your team and your department. The course is primarily aimed at those who currently have management responsibilities for others (including managers, team leaders or supervisors) or equivalent responsibilities (e.g. for managing services, projects, resources). All participants must have the opportunity to meet the assessment requirements which are specified by the ILM – please see further details below.
Fri 21	Professional Services Career Development Programme Finished 09:00 - 13:00 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room Please note that additional dates will be released shortly. A new two part programme to support career progression for Professional Services staff: Part 1 This highly interactive workshop will enable you to step back from the ‘day-to-day’ and focus on your career objectives, short and long term. You will have the opportunity to explore what development opportunities you could grasp and what networks might assist you. You will also have the opportunity to consider what’s holding you back and how you can overcome these barriers to fulfil your career aspirations. You will leave the workshop with a personal career plan in draft format, that you will be able to explore in greater depth during the second part of the programme. Part 2 An hour-long one-to-one career coaching session provided by a professional career coach from Penna, to take place on the 10th, 11th or 12th July. The booking link will be circulated for participants on the morning of Monday 10th June. If you receive a confirmed booking after this date, or do not receive the booking link on Monday 10th June, please contact PPD.
Mon 24	Assertiveness in Management Finished 09:15 - 16:30 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room As a manager, handling relationships is one of your key skills. An ability to think, speak and act assertively in these relationships will enhance your reputation and success. If you want to motivate staff, earn their loyalty and enable them to achieve the best possible results, then this course is for you. It will also deal with the challenges of managing your own manager assertively.

This course will equip you with the mindset and knowledge to communicate effectively when it really matters. Learn how to deliver your message with sincerity, clarity and enthusiasm. Staff who wish to improve their one-to-one communication skills in challenging and difficult situations will benefit from this course.

	Risk Management (Seminar) CANCELLED 09:30 - 12:00 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room The University must ensure that there are appropriate arrangements in place to promote effective risk management; this is a condition of grant under the terms of the Financial Memorandum between the HEFCE and the Higher Education Institutions it funds. This course will explore what risk management is and why it is necessary, and the particular benefits that can be derived from effective risk management. A key focus of the course will be to review the University’s system for risk management and to explore how this system can be implemented at the local level of Faculties and Departments.
	Inclusive Leadership Programme Launch Event Finished 15:15 - 16:30 The Pitt Building, Darwin Room Leaders and managers in academic, research and professional service roles are invited to join Professor Eilís Ferran, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Institutional and International Relations, to find out more about the new Inclusive Leadership Programme. The event will outline the programme’s key aims and content, designed to support the critical role that leaders and managers play in shaping a positive working environment, supporting progression and ensuring equality. In her recent statement, Professor Ferran said: "Achieving equality for all is of fundamental importance to the University and its employees. Both the monitoring of equalities data and feedback from our staff, for example in the Vice-Chancellor’s mycambridge consultation and in the recent staff survey, makes it clear that we need to do more to actively promote an inclusive culture, ensure good management practice and support our staff with their career development. I fully endorse the programmes and encourage you to take the opportunity to participate and support others to do so as well. This is an exciting opportunity for us to take a frank look at how inclusive we currently are and, by working together, how we can make progress towards our goal of achieving equality of pay and opportunity at the University." Tue 10	Seminar Series: Seminar 3 with Dr Paul Greatrix, Registrar, University of Nottingham Finished 12:00 - 13:00 Department of Genetics, Biffen Lecture Theatre Seminar Series: Seminar 3 with Dr Paul Greatrix, Registrar, University of Nottingham After the storm: how professional services staff should respond to the transformed HE landscape For those who have been working in higher education for some time as well as those who are new to the sector it can feel like a really fast-moving and challenging environment. Change is constant and getting more rapid and less predictable all the time. This session will look at how professional services staff can respond to this transformed landscape and the approaches and attitudes we will need to adopt to survive and thrive. It won’t be all doom and gloom though as we will explore some of the lighter aspects of sector life too. Paul's biography can be found here

	EU Settlement Scheme: A Briefing Finished 13:00 - 15:00 Department of Zoology, Main Lecture Theatre Following the EU Referendum in June 2016, the University has been working to assist its EU/EEA and Swiss staff with legal and practical guidance around residency and citizenship options. It is the government’s ambition to document all EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who are present in the UK, through the introduction of ‘Settled’ and ‘Pre-Settled’ status. This scheme was opened fully to the public in March 2019. Following the success of similar sessions which were ran last year, we are pleased to offer a further series of presentations which will provide information on current residency rights, and a detailed overview of the settled and pre-Settled status application process, and details on how to apply for British Citizenship if desired. These presentations give you the opportunity to see the application process first hand and to give you the information you need to make an application. Note: In the event the UK leaves the EU on 31 October 2019 with ‘no deal’ there is no obligation or requirement for EU/EEA or Swiss citizens to gain settled or pre-settled status by this date. The deadline for applications in the event of a no-deal is currently 31 December 2020. The presentations will be led by Graeme Ross, the Immigration and Compliance Manager at the University, who is an experienced UK and EU immigration practitioner. Three seminars will be provided initially, with further sessions available should there be sufficient demand. There will be an opportunity at the end of each presentation for questions and answers.
