You will learn what to include and exclude in your CV, how to choose the right format, how to tailor information to match job requirements, and how to deal with employment gaps, job hopping and/or lack of experience. The course is highly participative, providing an opportunity to share experiences with others, as well as time to practise your skills.
	High Performance Computing: An Introduction (ONLINE LIVE TRAINING) (2 of 3) Finished 09:30 - 13:00 Bioinformatics Training Facility - Online LIVE Training Have you heard about High Performance Computing, but are not sure what it is or whether it is relevant for your work? Would you like to use a HPC, but are not sure where to start? Are you using your personal computer to run computationally demanding tasks, which take long and slow down your work? Do you need to use software that runs on Linux, but don't have access to a Linux computer? If any of these questions apply to you, then this course might be for you! Knowing how to work on a High Performance Computing system is an essential skill for applications such as bioinformatics, big-data analysis, image processing, machine learning, parallelising tasks, and other high-throughput applications. In this course we will cover the basics of High Performance Computing, what it is and how you can use it in practice. This is a hands-on workshop, which should be accessible to researchers from a range of backgrounds and offering several opportunities to practice the skills we learn along the way. As an optional session for those interested, we will also introduce the (free) HPC facilities available at Cambridge University (the course is not otherwise Cambridge-specific). 12:30	Project Management CoP: Project retrospectives (lessons learned) Finished 12:30 - 13:30 In recent years retrospectives has taking over from lessons learned, in many ways they serve the same purpose; to review ways of working in a project. However when you say lessons learned you immediately imagine a meeting where the objective is to discuss what went wrong with the project. Project retrospectives have a more positive connotation from the agile principles of teamwork, collaboration, and celebrating successes and can happen throughout the project. The goal of a retrospective is to reflect on the team’s ability to collaborate Please join myself, Delivery Manager at UIS, and Product Manager Holly Cox where we will explore how you in a structured way can gather knowledge and insights throughout lifecycle of a project and ensure continuous improvement. 09:30	Leadership Essentials (2 of 2) Finished 09:30 - 14:30 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room Leadership Essentials is a key programme suitable for those with responsibilities for others’ work, behaviour and development, which aims to help managers refresh and build their skills and experience in this area. As well as clarifying key responsibilities, it focuses on critical areas that some can find more difficult, such as giving and receiving feedback effectively and handling challenging conversations. The programme incorporates tutor input; opportunities for discussion, reflection and sharing of good practice with others with similar responsibilities. It also includes curated e-learning resources to support managers with their ongoing learning and development. Participants are required to attend both half day sessions. Before attending, please take some time to review the short Leadership Essentials: Management Responsibilities Films of other University colleagues talking about their role as a manager.
	Financial Audit of EC Grants Finished 09:30 - 12:00 N/A - MS Teams All EC projects can be subject to audit. If your EC award is worth €325,000 (H2020 direct costs) or more your project will be automatically audited by UCAM’s external auditors (CG Lees) once your actual expenditure has reached or exceeded that threshold. The session aims to discuss the audit requirement for the EC awards and provide clarification on the documentations required in support of expenditure on EC grants. Ellen Thompson and Jonathan Gray from CG Lees will discuss the audit requirements and the typical pitfalls that you may wish to be aware of when managing an EC award. The session will be facilitated by ROO Compliance team and there will be time for Q&A. Please note that the session will be recorded.

Each session will provide a friendly and constructive environment in which to meet like-minded peers, discuss challenges, and work in a focused way using the Pomodoro technique. These virtual retreats are being hosted collaboratively across several institutions to encourage researchers across career stages and institutions to come together in a sustainable writing environment. The retreats will take place several times per month throughout the academic year and you can attend as many as you like (within booking limits for each session). This session is for PhD students.
14:00	Diversifying Assessment Forum 2023 Finished 14:00 - 17:00 Student Services Centre, Exams Hall, Room AG03c This annual forum will be of interest to those engaged in activities related to assessment across the collegiate university. It provides a venue to explore opportunities and processes relevant to the current assessment practices, particularly in light of the University's commitments to diversifying assessment and to eliminating awarding gaps experienced by students who are disadvantaged by high-stakes summative exams The year’s forum will include a panel of speakers on the topic of artificial intelligence and assessment; a workshop exploring the challenges and affordances of assessment practices led by the Technology-Enabled Learning team; reports from the Chairs of the Examination and Assessment Committee (EAC) and the Academic Standards and Enhancement Committee (ASEC); and discussion about ‘coursework’ as authentic and discipline-specific examples of diversified assessment. Further details, including the full programme of speakers, will be posted on the CCTL website in due course. The forum will be chaired by Professor Bhaskar Vira, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Chair of the Examination & Assessment Committee. You will learn how to prepare for interview, anticipate likely questions and plan how to answer them. You will learn techniques for handling nerves and be able to project yourself positively on screen and in-person. You will also be able to pre-empt and deal with common technical challenges that can occur in an online interview. The course is highly participative, providing an opportunity to share experiences with others, as well as time to practise your skills.
	Engaged Researcher - Animate your research Finished 09:30 - 17:00 Phoenix 2, Phoenix Building, New Museums Site This is an in-person event. This training will introduce you to the world of visual communication. We will look at visualising data versus visualising abstract concepts and think about appropriateness! How can you simplify a huge body of research into something that is visually enticing to people outside of your field? In this training you will learn how to create visual metaphors that illustrate your research as well as the basics of frame by frame and stop motion animation so that you may turn these illustrations into short animated gifs.
