Description

Speaking to the media can seem daunting, but with preparation and practice, you can make sure that even the most challenging interview goes smoothly. In this workshop, you will learn to prepare for an interview and how to ensure you get your messages across clearly to your audiences.

Colleagues from the Office of External Affairs & Communications will help you put into practice what you learn, with the opportunity to try your hand at mock ‘live’ radio and TV interviews.

Prerequisites

Attendees must have already attended the Introduction to Media Engagement course, either this year (https://training.cam.ac.uk/event/4014866) or in the past years.

Attendees must provide via e-mail to gb498@medschl.cam.ac.uk a short lay summary of their research at least a month in advance of the course to enable the trainers to prepare individualised teaching materials.

Objectives
  • Refresh attendees’ understanding of how the media work
  • Provide attendees with the tools to help them prepare for media interviews
  • Provide attendees with the tools to help them when taking part in media interviews
  • Enable attendees to practice being interviewed for radio and TV, including how to take control of the interview, and how to respond to challenging questioning
Aims

After attending this training participants will have the skills and confidence to speak to print, online and broadcast media.

Good internet connection: the course will be held in Microsoft Teams.
