Atlas.ti
This course provides an introduction to the management and analysis of qualitative data using Atlas.ti. It is divided between pre-recorded lectures, in which you’ll learn the relevant strategies and techniques, and hands-on live practical sessions in Zoom, in which you will learn how to analyse qualitative data using the software.
The sessions will introduce participants to the following:
- consideration of the advantages and limitations of using qualitative analysis software
- setting-up a research project in Atlas.ti
- use of Atlas.ti's menus and tool bars
- importing and organising data
- starting data analysis using Atlas.ti’s coding tools
- exploring data using query and visualization tools
Please note: Atlas.ti for Mac will not be covered.

The module is split into three three-hour sessions, each consisting of a lecture and a Zoom meeting:
Session 1: Introduction to Atlas.ti and computer assisted qualitative analysis
Session 2: Mapping and interpreting qualitative data using Atlas.ti
Session 3: Advanced features of Atlas.ti and common pitfalls of using it
Each session will consist of a one and a half-hour pre-recorded lecture, and a live one and a half-hour lab session in Zoom, which will be guided by ‘hands-on’ practicals and worksheet instructions.
You will need your own personal computer or laptop, with acccess to the internet, and with Atlas.ti software pre-loaded and ready to use. A copy of Atlas software can be obtained from the link below: https://cambridge.store.academia.co.uk/software/atlas-ti.html
This course does not contain a formal assessment but has learning outcomes that are linked to the wider outcomes of the broader programme:
- describe how Atlas.ti can support qualitative data analysis in a research project and recognise the most common pitfalls
- construct strategies for analysing data using Atlas.ti
- perform importation and organisation of data in Atlas.ti
- perform data analysis using Atlas.ti’s coding, memo and visualisations tools

Moodle is the 'Virtual Learning Environment' (VLE) that the SSRMP uses to deliver online courses.
SSRMP lecturers use Moodle to make teaching resources available before, during, and/or after classes, and to make announcements and answer questions.
For this reason, it is vital that all SSRMP students enrol onto and explore their course Moodle pages once booking their SSRMP modules via the UTBS, and that they do so before their module begins. Moodle pages for modules should go live around a week before the module commences, but some may be made visible to students, earlier.
