Children are our next generation of researchers and as an audience for Research Engagement, they can be both rewarding and challenging. More than ever, online content plays an important role in reaching and inspiring children of different age groups for research. With so much content already out there how to make new and relevant content online? What are parents and teachers looking for? What safeguarding considerations should you have? This course will aim to answer these and other questions and provide guidance in creating content.

The Programme offers general language tuition with a focus on communicative competence.

At intermediate 2 level the focus shifts slightly towards reading and writing whilst still offering plenty an opportunity for oral communication. The syllabus is more topical and the contents feature many a cultural, historical, political and current affairs theme. While the grammar is analysed within a context, explicit grammar instruction becomes an integral part of the course.

Ever wonder why you seem to ‘click’ with one person and not another? Ever wonder why you might find some things easier to do than others? The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) might shed some light on these questions.

Why this course might make a difference

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator presents a framework to help you understand yourself and others, by exploring differences and preferences in four areas of your personality. As a result of this exploration you may work more effectively and be more understanding in your relationships with others.

Led by a qualified MBTI practitioner, the workshop comprises working through the MBTI questionnaire and self-assessment exercises, so that participants can:

  • Understand the concept and theories behind the MBTI types and process to obtain a personal profile
  • Explore the differences and preferences within personalities in research-related scenarios

This session covers the theory and practice of budgeting in the University, how to interpret department budget reports and understand the causes of overspends (and underspends) against budgets. The course refers closely to Chapter 3 of the Financial Procedures Manual

University staff working in embedded accommodation at Addenbrooke's Hospital should attend the NHS' fire training for its tenants. This will cover general fire safety awareness specific to the main hospital. (See related courses below for further details.)

Open Targets: Integrating genetics, genomics and drug information for translational research and drug discovery (Webinar) Finished 14:00 - 15:30 Bioinformatics Training Facility - Webinar (Time Zone = BST in Summer, GMT in Winter)

Open Targets is a public-private partnership to use human genetics, genomic data and drug information for systematic identification and prioritisation of therapeutic targets. This module introduces the Open Targets partnership, its underlying projects and the bioinformatics resources for researchers studying associations of human genes with diseases.

In this 90 minute long webinar, Denise Carvalho-Silva, will focus on Open Targets Platform and Open Targets Genetics, open source tools of integrated genetic, genomic and chemical data for target-disease associations.

SAH Remote Online Teaching Workshop new Finished 17:00 - 18:00 Zoom Video Communication Software

Delivered by Pedro Barriuso-Algar, CULP Coordinator for Teacher Development

One-hour workshops focusing on Zoom essentials. Participants will learn how to:

  • Book a series of sessions in advance.
  • Use the interactive whiteboard and the chat facility.
  • Share content (e.g. Power Point presentations).
  • Share computer audio.
  • Create breakout rooms.
  • Integrate content from Moodle and / or Google Drive.

The workshops will be hands-on and participants (limited to 12 per session) will have the opportunity to practice all these features.
