This full day specialist bespoke training equips Wellbeing Advocates to be powerful champions for wellbeing. The training is designed to establish the roles and responsibilities of a Wellbeing Advocate and to support you with the knowledge, skills, and experience to develop in your role.

Training Outcomes:  

  • The fundamentals of physical, psychological and social wellbeing 
  • The role of the Wellbeing Advocate 
  • The importance of healthy boundaries 
  • Interpersonal skills for Wellbeing Champions

Elevate + Empower: Best Practices for Leadership Wellbeing:

A collaborative event between the Leaders and Managers CoP, Wellbeing Advocates and the Staff Wellbeing team focussing on looking after your own wellbeing by sharing best practice. This interactive and discussion-based session is designed to empower Leaders and Managers to promote positive wellbeing for themselves and their teams. Participants will hear about the central staff wellbeing activity planned for the next academic year, take time to reflect on their own wellbeing, explore what impacts their wellbeing at work and share wellbeing best practice tips.

Menopause and Mindset Masterclass new Finished 09:30 - 11:00 CPMO: MS Teams

Looking after our wellbeing during menopause can be challenging; we are likely to be experiencing busy periods in our lives, managing fluctuating hormones and caring for other people around us too. This often means we place ourselves last, without time to explore the positive impact that mindset and self-care can have. Having tools and approaches to help us understand and manage our mindset, in a way that is right for us, is a powerful tool.

This interactive session, delivered by Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace with Jo Lee-Morris, Head of Training and qualified coach and learning professional, offers time to reflect, understand and discover strategies for managing our mindset and practicing self-care that’s right for us as individuals, so that we can thrive during menopause.

Session Objectives:

  • Explore some of the mindset challenges we can experience during menopause
  • Discover where negative and intrusive thoughts come from and practical strategies to work with them
  • Think about what we can and can’t control and reflect on how to use this alleviate overwhelm
  • Explore and define the self-care that’s right for you
  • Share with others and gain useful ideas and insights from them

Mental Health First Aid - Refresher Course new Finished 10:00 - 14:00 CPMO: MS Teams

The MHFA Refresher course aims to keep existing MHFAs motivated, empowered, and confident to carry out their roles and duties effectively. This training is for existing Mental Health First Aiders who last received training 3 years ago and require a refresher. You do not need to have been trained as a Mental Health First Aider at the University of Cambridge but you need to have received the relevant training to be a qualified Mental Health First Aider.

The training will be delivered by Mental Health First Aid England. You do not need to have been trained as a Mental Health first Aider with Mental Health First Aid England but you do need to have received training to the same standard.

A Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common passion, set of problems, or interest in a topic and who come together to fulfil both individual and group goals. 

CoPs bring colleagues together in order to:

  • Create support networks
  • Learn and grow their skills
  • Share knowledge and join up related work
  • Share common approaches
  • Collaborate and innovate, and create better practices for everyone.

Come along to this session to find out more about how CoPs are being established and embedded at Cambridge, and the ways in which they could help you and those who you work with to achieve your objectives. There will be the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas for potential new CoPs and learn more about this exciting new area of development in the University.

Developing Talent: A Conversation with Managers new Finished 12:00 - 13:00 CPMO: MS Teams

Discussion Topic: Goal setting: how to set goals to motivate which align to institutional priorities

This series of informal drop in sessions is designed to provide both new and more experienced leaders and managers, across all staff groups, with a safe space to share practice and discuss some of the challenges that can arise when supporting others to develop and strengthen their performance. Each session will start with Q&A with a panel of experienced managers drawn from across the University. This will be followed by questions from the audience and small group discussion in break-out rooms (depending on audience size/timings). The format is designed to facilitate peer support and learning. Following the session, recommendations for training and other resources will be shared.

The Squiggly Careers - Podcast Group new Finished 12:00 - 13:00 CPMO: MS Teams

You've heard of a book group, but how about one for podcasts? In these sessions we will focus on a different episode from the wonderful Squiggly Careers Amazing If podcasts, which includes over 300 episodes on career based topics ranging from coaching and confidence, to strength and values.

Before each session you will be sent a link to a podcast episode to listen to and reflect upon. During the session you will be led through a selection of tasks/exercises recommended in the episode Pod Sheet. You will have the opportunity to work on these individually and then reflect back as a group.

Session 13: How to make time for career development

In this episode podcast hosts talk about how to stop time from being a blocker for career development. They share ideas from their latest Harvard Business Review article to give you lots of practical tools and approaches to try out.

It informs participants as to what they need to know and offers tools for addressing and improving mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

This training highlights what managers need to know about managing mental health in the workplace (for example, regarding legislation and The Health and Safety Executive).

The course comes with free access to on-line i-act resources.

The i-Act course is accredited by The Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Training Objectives:

  • Gives managers a greater understanding of mental health and wellbeing issues and help them recognise when colleagues may need further help and support
  • Provides practical tools for promoting positive wellbeing in the workplace to help build resilience for ourselves as managers and for colleagues
  • Offers guidance and advice for how managers can connect with colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health or wellbeing issue
  • Equips managers with practical tools, a resource pack and signposting to further help and support concerning mental health and wellbeing issues

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis. In the same way as learning physical first aid, MHFA teaches people how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health and feel confident to guide someone to appropriate support.

To become a Mental Health First Aider, participants must complete a two-day MHFA course. This is a comprehensive awareness and skills course, which includes a mix of presentations, discussions and group work activities. Every MHFA course is delivered by a quality assured instructor who has completed the Instructor Training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health

As an MHFAider you will be able to:

  • Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
  • Practise active listening and empathy
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
  • Discuss the MHFAider role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
  • Practise self-care
  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England
