The I-Act course for managers is aimed at supporting managers to improve workplace wellbeing and helping them to support employees who may experience a mental health or wellbeing issue. The training maintains a focus on common mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, and addresses how we might improve wellbeing in order to build resilience.

This is an online half day trial.

The course gives practical guidance and tools for how we might improve our own mental health and wellbeing and support others who may have a mental health or wellbeing issue. It informs participants as to what they need to know and offers tools for addressing and improving mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

This training highlights what managers need to know about managing mental health in the workplace (for example, regarding legislation and The Health and Safety Executive).

The course comes with free access to on-line i-act resources.

The i-Act course is accredited by The Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Training Objectives:

  • Gives managers a greater understanding of mental health and wellbeing issues and help them recognise when colleagues may need further help and support
  • Provides practical tools for promoting positive wellbeing in the workplace to help build resilience for ourselves as managers and for colleagues
  • Offers guidance and advice for how managers can connect with colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health or wellbeing issue
  • Equips managers with practical tools, a resource pack and signposting to further help and support concerning mental health and wellbeing issues

The course is designed to give participants an overview of the history and principles of the Lean methodology, and an explanation of some of the basic tools used to make improvements to processes. This session will provide some basic tools that can be used immediately to facilitate a continuous improvement way of working

Levels of trust and psychological safety in a team can have a significant impact on performance. When it is present, motivation and innovation will increase. When we feel safe, we can communicate openly and transparently, and this allows us to learn and grow. A lack of trust results in mistakes being buried, and in difficulties with retention, stress and low morale.

This session will allow you to reflect on how a psychologically safe environment can be fostered and the role you play in this.

Values are what makes you you. They are the things that drive and motivate you. Being more aware of them can help you to make better decisions at work, leaving you more fulfilled and happy. They can help you make good choices and provide a guiding force to point you in the right direction at times of uncertainty. This session gives the opportunity to join with a small group of colleagues to explore your values. You will be guided through an exercise by an experienced facilitator from the Organisational Development team.

CI at Cambridge - Seminar POSTPONED 14:00 - 16:00 Postdoc Centre @ Eddington, Sanders Hall

In the wake of the LeanHE International Conference here in Cambridge join us to hear one of the plenary sessions. Nicolae Florea, Operations Excellence Manager at Cambridge University Press and Assessment will repeat his session for the CI at Cambridge network,as detailed below.

Embracing sustainability is not just a moral obligation but also a strategic benefit, since consumers, regulators, and investors are placing greater emphasis on environmentally friendly business. Nicolae will discuss who Cambridge University Press & Assessment are and how their operations impact individuals worldwide. He will share Cambridge's lean journey, sharing the steps taken and benefits achieved through investment in people, tools, strategy deployment and culture. In setting out the journey you will learn how incremental changes have created engagement and shifted the dial in reducing our environmental impact alongside improving financial performance. Finally he will share how Cambridge has embraced lean principles to set out its program to achieve transformational change in its fulfilment processes to Assessment customers worldwide.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to talk all things Lean and CI with colleagues from across the University.

Developing Talent: A Conversation with Managers new Finished 12:00 - 13:00 CPMO: MS Teams

Discussion Topic: Under performance: supporting others to succeed.

This series of informal drop in sessions is designed to provide both new and more experienced leaders and managers, across all staff groups, with a safe space to share practice and discuss some of the challenges that can arise when supporting others to develop and strengthen their performance. Each session will start with Q&A with a panel of experienced managers drawn from across the University. This will be followed by questions from the audience and small group discussion in break-out rooms (depending on audience size/timings). The format is designed to facilitate peer support and learning. Following the session, recommendations for training and other resources will be shared.

Come along to this session if you would like to find out more or be involved in the exciting development of a potential new CoP for service management - the provision of secure supported and reliable services. Within the University this could include those who are responsible for the provision of an IT service or systems, work in a customer service function, manage requests from students, colleagues or customers, or manage products.

There will be the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and learn more about how this could grow into a successfully functioning community.

Have you ever wished you could get 10 minutes with a senior colleague to ask their advice on how they would handle something? Have you ever wondered how others approach challenging problems? This is your opportunity to ask. We are bringing together a panel of very experienced colleagues from across the University for a special speed mentoring session so that they can offer you their support and advice.

Speed mentoring offers you the opportunity for a series of short, focused conversations about a specific question or issue you are struggling with. You will rotate around four different mentors, spending around 10 minutes with each, to gain different perspectives on an issue you are seeking to resolve or a project you are trying to progress.

"I liked that there were a diverse background of university staff involved in the session, and all of the mentors were really engaged and enthusiastic. I felt that I could be honest about some of my experiences in the University, good and bad.
