This briefing session is for users of PoM who are returning to the building after being away for some time. The need for a refresher is determined by the Laboratory.

This is a short session designed to give basic information on the operation and hazards of the Semi-Conductor Physics Clean Room (Mott Building) to Department of Physics designated first aiders.

Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low impact flexibility and muscular strength. It emphasises proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance, to help improve the 'core muscles' of your body leaving you relaxed and free of tension.

This session covers the basics of risk assessment and focuses on mechanical workshop activities at Physics

Running Activity new Unscheduled Not bookable

This running session will be organised by Helen Marshall and Richard King and will appeal to runners at different levels from beginners to more experienced runners. The activities will commence with a quick briefing and words of encouragement (in the first year lab). Runners will be provided with route information and the groups will have a group lead who will ensure that everyone is encouraged and walking/jogging or running at their level..

Depending on the level of interest 3 choices are proposed as follows:

1/ A 2km (roughly 1 mile) walk/jog which is aimed at people who don’t normally go jogging. The simple aim being to complete the very achievable distance. 2/ A 4km (roughly 2 mile) jog for people who feel able to keep running but at a nice slow pace. The aim being to complete the distance without stopping. 3/ A 5km run for experienced runners.

Please indicate which option you are interested in when booking.

After the event we will all meet up for a cup of tea.

A 35-minute running session following a 5K route, which will be tailored depending on your experience. Whether you are an experienced runner, or completely new to the sport this will be a perfect session to meet like-minded people and enjoy some fresh air!

All abilities welcome from beginners to more experienced runners.

This session will be followed by celebratory tea and biscuits :)

T’ai Chi is a gentle and meditative form of exercise. Practice not only improves our physical health, including posture, balance, breathing and circulation, but helps to calm the mind and relieve stress.

Alison Warlow has been practising T'ai Chi and qigong since 1999, and teaching since 1994. She teaches a number of weekly classes in and around Cambridge, and is a registered instructor with the T'ai Chi Union of Great Britain.

The purpose of this programme is to strengthen resilience in individuals.

The programme places personal resilience in the context of the workplace and explores the influences, techniques and approaches that help individuals develop and sustain personal control and resilience at work.

Its emphasis is on the prevention of stress with individuals taking responsibility themselves to approach challenging situations with robust attitudes so they remain resilient and also grow their resilience further.
