Description

This course introduces University of Cambridge students to the core concepts of cyber security and provides guidance on how to stay safe online. It also aims to raise awareness of some common cyber security scams aimed at students.

Objectives

In detail, the course:

  • explains how cyber-criminals target students, what are the most common student scam techniques and how to avoid them. Examples include:
  • personal and financial information theft,
  • identity theft,
  • promotion of non-existing events for students via social media,
  • cyber criminals impersonating the student loan company,
  • sophisticated phishing attacks that target students,
  • the money muling scam
  • describes the various forms of social engineering such as Phishing, Smishing and Tailgating.
  • highlights the importance of creating strong and unique passwords and explains how to protect them.
  • describes best practices when using personal devices, including multi-factor authentication, running regular updates of operating and antivirus systems and use of password managers.
