This programme develops a range of management skills and is externally accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM). It is highly participative and there is a strong emphasis on applying new learning to your work situation for the benefit of your team and your department.

Level 5 Award in Management Application Form
Target audience:
- University staff who have (or are aspiring to have) middle management responsibilities
- College and Non-University Teaching Institutions staff; please note a fee applies for this course
Duration: Five full day sessions and one half day session
Prerequisites: You must attend all the sessions and complete the assessment requirements to qualify for the Award
Aims:
- be able to identify the specific responsibilities of middle managers in enabling the organisation to achieve its goals
- be able to understand how communication and interpersonal relationships affect managerial performance in the workplace
- be able to develop the individuals in your team
- be able to plan and deliver professional presentations and evaluate your performance
- to have achieved a nationally recognised qualification at Level 5 of the National Qualification Framework (NQF)
Charging:
- A financial contribution equivalent to the cost of the ILM registration/certification fee (£89) will need to be made by the individual/their department for University staff
- A fee of £800 is payable (a purchase order number will be required) for any College and Non-University Teaching Institution staff wishing to attend
Further information:
- This course is externally accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), a national awarding body specialising in management qualifications.
- Application of learning and development of new skills will be assessed by the completion of work-based assignments, a reflective review and a presentation. You will also need to complete the University’s Managing Diversity e-learning module in your own time (approx 1.5 hour).
- The sessions focus on developing skills in the context of working within the University. Each session involves a combination of theory and opportunities to practice the new skills learnt. The methods used will include tutor input, small group and individual activities, case studies, practice sessions and group discussions. You are encouraged to build on previous experience and to continually relate course content back to the issues and situations you face in your workplace.
