JTC: MML Second Years: Strategies for listening to French (FRAV prep.) New
Come to this session if you would like to explore developing your personal method for practising listening to French, particularly for progressing with challenging audio-visual clips from documentaries and films. Different listening strategies work for different people, and improvement is all about diversifying your own practice. We will try out practical strategies and evaluate their helpfulness against the questions that you are asked in the FRAV exam.
Please note this workshop will take place in LB 11 on the Sidgwick site.

We will look at a variety of listening strategy combinations to tackle challenges such as: coping with speed; dealing with the visual whilst listening; listening more effectively to detail. These tiny strategy processes combine to enable you to use higher order skills for areas such as identifying different possible interpretations of a clip, and understanding how its genre and composition affects the audience's experience.
We will open up the listening process by exploring the mental actions involved when it is successful. Even though many of these actions are subconscious, understanding the process can enable you to deliberately experiment with new strategies and so focus your practice on the areas that you would like to develop.
