Excel 2010/2013: Functions and Macros
Prerequisites


Description

This course covers some of the more challenging functions such as IF, SUMIFS and VLOOKUP. Please note that the recorded macro section uses automated steps and does not teach VBA programming, if you want to learn VBA then please see the self-taught course Programming in VBA - Using Microsoft Excel 2013. Not all chapters will be taught in full due to time constraints but are included for self-study.

Prerequisites
  • Good competency in Excel will be assumed
  • Attendance of Excel: Introduction or equivalent knowledge
Topics covered
  • Recording macros (please note: not VBA programming)
  • Defined names
  • Logical functions (IF, AND, OR, NOT)
  • Lookup Functions (VLOOKUP)
  • Statistical functions (COUNT/COUNTA/COUNTIF, MODE/MEAN, STDEV/VAR)
  • Maths Functions (TRUNC/ROUND, SUMIF/SUMIFS)
  • Date and Time FUNCTIONS (NOW/TODAY, WEEKDAY/EOMONTH, calculating future dates)
  • Text functions (converting between cases, extracting part of a string)
Taught using

Excel 2010 on MCS Windows

Notes
  • The course will be taught using Excel 2010 on PCs but will also be suitable for Excel 2007/2013 users. Macintosh users of Excel 2011 should also find it useful.
  • Anyone wishing to copy the course exercise files should bring a USB memory stick they can be downloaded
