SPSS: Beyond the Basics
Prerequisites


Description

This session follows on from SPSS: Basic Parts 1 and 2 and continues to introduce useful techniques for data analysis with SPSS. Working with sensitive data types will be covered and a basic introduction to SPSS command language.

Target audience
  • All current University members (departments and colleges)
  • Further details regarding eligibility criteria are available
Prerequisites

The course assumes prior attendance of SPSS: Introduction for Beginners course, or equivalent knowledge and experience.

  • Handling 'difficult' data
  • Working with dates and times
  • Recoding and transforming data
  • Multiple response data
  • Introduction to SPSS Syntax language
  • Data restructuring and management
Format

Presentations, demonstrations and practicals.

Taught using

SPSS v. 22 on MCS Windows

Notes
  • No attempt is made to teach statistical techniques, though simple examples are used to show the principles of SPSS use.
  • Practicals will be run on PCs using SPSS for Windows.
