June 2025

Thu 12
Carers Cuppa & Chat new Finished 11:30 - 12:30 Department of Engineering Online

Join us for a special 1-hour session in support of Carers Week 2025, hosted by the SPACE (Supporting Parents and Carers @ Cambridge Network). This event is an excellent opportunity for staff and students to come together, share experiences, and gain valuable insights from the Chair of SPACE, Rachel Bailey, and other community members.

Who is a carer?

A carer is anyone who provides unpaid care to a family member (child with additional needs or an adult), partner or friend who, due to illness, disability, a mental health condition, or an addiction, could not cope without their support. This care may be provided remotely and/or in-person.

Whether you have caring responsibilities, know someone who has, or simply want to learn more about the challenges and rewards of caregiving, this session is for you.

Come along to connect, support, and know that you are not alone.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Carers Week: Recognising and Supporting Working Carers new Finished 13:00 - 14:00 Department of Engineering Online

Approximately 1 in 5 people juggle work and unpaid care (1 in 3 in working in the NHS!), providing support to a family member (child with additional needs or an adult), or friend, who has a disability, mental and/or physical health condition, substance misuse issue, or who needs extra help as they grow older.

The range of caring situations is broad, but there are many commonalities in the impacts on carers and the ways workplaces can include and support carers. Carers bring a wealth of skills, knowledge, and experience to work and need to be enabled to thrive there.

The seminar/workshop will explore:

  • Who unpaid carers are
  • Challenges and barriers unpaid carers face in the workplace
  • Strengths unpaid carers can bring to workplace
  • How to include and support unpaid carers at work
