Description
Introductory course to Chinese. This course is for those with no previous knowledge of Chinese. Communicative context, with videos, audio, texts and conversation.
Please note: This course will be class room based/face to face teaching at CUED.

Sessions
Number of sessions: 9
Topics covered
The course material will be based on the textbook Chinese in Steps Vol. 1. by George X Zhang, Linda Li and Lik Suen. We will aim to cover Lessons 1 to 6, which cover:
- Introduction to Chinese characters
- Pronunciation
- Tones and the Pinyin system
- Greetings
- Numbers
- Expressions of time
- How to describe basic everyday activities
Objectives
To introduce you to the Chinese language, culture and learning skills.
Aims
To focus on listening and speaking, with a balance between reading and some writing skills.

Class work and individual study.
