Visualising your Data

Description

This workshop will be led by Dr Steven Wooding, Lead for Research and Analysis at the Centre for Science and Policy.

Pictures, diagrams and charts are a valuable way to communicate - but they're not easy. Steve will talk about how to use diagrams to illustrate frameworks, concepts and ideas, as well as how to design effective graphs and charts. Along the way he will share his experience of producing visualisations for policy makers and researchers. Sketching is a vital part of figuring out the best way to work out how to visualise so bring along ideas from your own research; a notebook; and your colour pencils (or pens) to have a go.

The last hour of the 3 hour session will be an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for some of your visualisation challenges. Please get in touch with Steve at: sw131@cam.ac.uk if you have a challenge you'd like to suggest (first come, first served).

Dr Steven Wooding is currently the Senior Research Fellow in the University of Cambridge Research Strategy Office. Previously he was Lead for Research at the Centre for Science Policy and Director of the Innovation Policy team at RAND Europe. Throughout his career in policy research he has worked to use visual concepts to explain his research to policy makers and scientists.
