English: Speaking Skills: Presentation Skills
This course is intended for non-native speakers who wish to improve their skills in giving presentations in English.

- Non-native MPhil by Research and PhD students plus Postdocs from the Department of Engineering ONLY
- No other students, members of staff or visiting scholars are eligible for this course. If you are not eligible, please do not sign up, as your name will be deleted from the list without further notice. - Common areas of difficulty for non-native speakers
- Pronunciation, particularly focusing on field specific terms
- Vocabulary for effective presentations
- Cultural differences in presentation styles
- The language of question and answer sessions and seminars
To provide opportunities for you to practise the language needed to give effective presentations in English. The course will help you to build your confidence by providing opportunities for you to give short presentations to the rest of the group.
Class work and individual study
Signing up for a course requires commitment for the full course. If you fail to attend the first workshop of the course and do not email your reason for not attending, your name will be removed from the attendance list without notice to make space for those on the waiting list.

- CLIC: Speaking skills: Fluency and Appropriacy
- CLIC: Core skills: Effective correspondence
- English: Successfully pitching your work in English: elevator pitches, pecha kucha, proposals etc.
- English: Conducting successful research in English: interviews, questionnaires, etc.
- English: Presenting yourself successfully in English: personal profiles, CVs, etc.
- English: Effectively presenting your data in English: i.e., verbalising numerical data, effectively using language of trends and comparison, etc.
