Asbestos Awareness Training


Description

This training will provide delegates with a basic knowledge of asbestos awareness, the risks and the legal requirements under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Asbestos awareness training is mandatory for all University personnel meeting the prerequisites of the Asbestos Regulations and ACoPs (Accepted Codes of Practice). Training is typically required for personnel who could inadvertently disturb asbestos during the course of their work/activities or instruct someone to do so, eg personnel who work on buildings.

Target audience
  • General maintenance staff, electricians, heating, ventilation and telecommunications engineers and IT installers together with their supervisors (including cleaning supervisors) and laboratory managers
  • College staff can make a provisional booking which will be confirmed 14 days ahead of the training date if places are available

Topics covered

This course will include the following areas:

  • What asbestos is
  • Where it was used
  • Examples within buildings
  • Regulatory framework
  • Explanation of the Regulations and where they apply
  • Managing – surveys, risk assessment and the Asbestos Management Plan
  • An overview of programmed removal or remediation works
  • What to do in an emergency
Objectives

Having attended the course delegates should:

  • Understand the basic legal requirements in order to comply with CAR 2012
  • Understand the health hazards and risks relating to asbestos exposure and what precautions need to be taken
  • Have an insight into the types of asbestos containing materials, its usage and where it can be found in premises
  • Have an understanding of the types of asbestos surveys and where they apply
  • Know where to obtain information on asbestos in premises prior to commencing work
  • What to do if suspicious materials are found
  • Have a basic understanding of the process involved in remediation work

Notes

Delegates will receive a comprehensive training pack. Delegates who successfully complete the training will be issued with a UKATA Certificate.
