Asbestos Awareness Training

This training will provide delegates with a basic knowledge of asbestos awareness, the risks and the legal requirements under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Asbestos awareness training is mandatory for all University personnel meeting the prerequisites of the Asbestos Regulations and ACoPs (Accepted Codes of Practice). Training is typically required for personnel who could inadvertently disturb asbestos during the course of their work/activities or instruct someone to do so, eg personnel who work on buildings. |

Essential training for colleagues who will be acting as Approvers for pre-travel risk assessments in Peregrine Foresight. This course covers the fundamentals of travel safety and security, threat and risk assessment, risk treatment and mitigation, using the Foresight platform, and supporting travellers in-country. The session provides Approvers with the necessary skills to assess, feedback and approve pre-travel risk assessments, as well as an understanding of their role and responsibilities as an Approver, including how to find guidance and support and the referral of assessments to the Study Away Risk Assessment Committee (SARAC). |

This course will provide a refresher of what is expected of Departmental fire safety managers to assist responsible persons to comply with current fire safety legislation. |

Fire Safety Awareness Training

Fire Safety Awareness training will raise attendees' awareness of fire safety and assist fire safety managers to comply with current fire safety legislation. University staff working in embedded accommodation at Addenbrooke's Hospital should attend the NHS' fire training for its tenants. This will cover general fire safety awareness specific to the main hospital. (See related courses below for further details.) |

Anyone who is a first-time user of unsealed radioactive substances is expected to attend this acquaintanceship course before they begin the work. Users of radioactive substances who are new to the University should also attend. This course also acts as a refresher for experienced users and for users from other institutions or countries. There will be time for discussion and questions at the end of the session. You will be required to complete a short quiz after the course to confirm your understanding of core aspects of radiation safety. Please see the 20 minute video Working with radioactivity safely which you will need to watch before attending the main course. This course is aimed at supervisors of UV equipment and others who are responsible for areas where artificial sources of UV equipment are used. It gives an understanding of the hazards of ultraviolet radiation and practical methods of protection from artificial sources. It may also be appropriate for users of artificial UV sources, although appropriate practical training on specific equipment should be provided within departments. |
