Do you keep hearing the term collaborating online and are wondering if you and your co-workers should be doing it, or if you are doing it correctly? If so, this one-hour instructor-led course is for you. The session will blast through the jargon of OneDrive and SharePoint to explain how working online together can improve productivity, and it will give you hands on practice collaborating in real time using Word and Excel. By the end of the session your questions will be answered and you'll be working online with confidence.

Need to present meetings or teach using Teams? Then join us in this friendly hand on session to learn how to get up and running. You will have the opportunity to practice managing a meeting.

The course is taught using Microsoft Teams and you must have Teams installed on your computer to participate. If you are not using Outlook or Exchange Online for your email, please contact the instructor to discuss the implications for this course.

You will:

  • Understand the various ways of meeting with colleagues
  • Create a meeting for yourself or on behalf of others
  • Give and take control of participants' desktops
  • Practice managing your content when leading a meeting or teaching online

If you book:

If so join us in this friendly, introductory session to learn how to get up and running with Outlook 365 Email and Calendar using the Desktop application for Windows, where we will take you through the basics of the Outlook 365.

This course does not cover the Hermes migration tool or in-depth technical questions regarding Outlook and Exchange. For this information please see the Further Information for IT staff webpages.

Want to extend your knowledge of Teams? Then join us to learn how to use applications to record notes, create a Wiki, manage a small project and create online forms or surveys. This is Part 3 of 4 courses that provide you the opportunity to get a hands on and in-depth insight into Teams.

  • Know how to add documents and apps in a tab and when you might benefit from using them.
  • Practice using applications that you need to work with i.e. Connectors, OneNote, Wiki, Planner, Forms and Lists.

It is a quick fire succession of topics at a fast pace and aimed at those who are comfortable using computers. The course will be taught using Windows, Mac users will find small differences. You should install Office 365 before the course.

Mendeley: Introduction to a Reference Management Program (Live Online) Finished 14:00 - 16:00 UIS Online Microsoft Teams 1

Mendeley is a free reference management program. It was originally developed as a way to manage collections of PDF documents and this is still its main strength in comparison with other tools such as EndNote and Zotero.

Mendeley can be used to insert reference citations and a bibliography of cited references into Word and Open Office documents and may be of interest to anyone wanting a free reference management program which will create BibTeX citation keys and paste them into a LaTeX document.

This is a basic introductory course to get you started and probably will not be very useful to those who are already using the program and who have specific queries about the way it works.

  • Dr Nick Mattin, Head of Service Development at UIS, will present a summary about the Falcon-on-Drupal migration project and the development roadmap for Drupal.

Collaboration Tools: Microsoft Teams - Fast Track (Live Online using MS Teams) Finished 10:00 - 12:00 UIS Online Microsoft Teams 4

Want an insight into Teams? Then join us in this friendly, fast-paced, session to learn how to get up and running. This course would suit people that are comfortable using computers and who would be confident referring to the course materials after the session to consolidate the detail.

However, if you would prefer a more in depth and slower paced course with more opportunity for practice then attend Teams Parts 1 - 5 instead (see Related courses below).

Please note that the course is taught using Microsoft Teams and you must have Teams installed on your computer to participate.

You will:

  • Understand Teams, channels and gain an overview of what is possible in the application. In Teams you can:
  • video/audio chat or message colleagues one-to-one or in a group
  • arrange and attend meetings
  • collaborate in real time with colleagues - access, share, and edit Word docs, PowerPoint, and Excel files
  • add applications that you need to work with e.g. OneNote, Planner, Forms/surveys.

Want to practice giving Teams Live Events? Then join us in this informal introductory session to manage and deliver a webinar. The course is not about presentation skills, it is to master the mechanics of managing the smooth transition between different presenters and content. The maximum number of participants for this course is limited to 2.

You must have the following items installed or available on your computer to participate:

1. The Teams desktop app installed on your computer.
2. The Teams Calendar available on the Teams interface. (You must be using Microsoft Exchange Online for your email to enable the Teams Calendar). Details on how to migrate from Hermes to Exchange can be found here.
3. The button on the Teams Calendar interface necessary to create a Teams Live Event. (To enable the button on your system you need to request the ability to create Live Events via the Self Service portal). Note! this can take up to 48 hours for the change to come into effect.

You will also need a working webcam, speakers (or headset) and mic.

You will:

  • Learn about Teams Live Events
  • Practice schedulling and delivering a Live Event. Please have a short PowerPoint and one other application ready to demonstrate, e.g a web site with video content
