Physics Health & Safety: Induction Part 1 Briefing BeginnersNew
This induction briefing is mandatory for all new or temporary staff, new students, and visitors (from other departments or elsewhere) to the Cavendish Laboratory who are staying for more than one week, or are visiting regularly. It begins with a short HR induction.
You will also need to book and attend Part 2 Induction if you do practical work - it follows 10 minutes after this session.

By the end of this session participants should be able to:
- Describe the basic health and safety requirements for staff, students and others
- Take the correct action to protect themselves in an emergency at Physics buildings, and
- Explain the legal health and safety responsibilities of all department users and the Department management
To provide basic information on H&S and HR issues at Department of Physics at University of Cambridge, together with other basic information for new starters and longer term visitors
Presentations and quizzes done in small groups.
There will be a short quiz at the end of the session - please bring a pen. Results are usually made available by the following day, and are notified to Hub Administration Teams and the central Admin Office to ensure you receive appropriate access to the department. You will be notified of the result only if you have NOT reached the required standard.
This event is followed after a short break by Part 2 of Induction, which covers risk assessment and is required for people who manage others, run events, or do experimental work. Evidence of risk assessment training at other departments will exempt you from Part 2.
