Drop In Sessions - Simplifying our Processes new Finished 09:00 - 10:00 CPMO: MS Teams

A series of 30 minute drop-in sessions to talk with one of the Simplifying our Processes team. We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys.

Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the Simplifying our Processes team. These are not workshops or taught sessions.

The Simplifying our Processes team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand.

Alumni in Industry event new Finished 10:00 - 13:30

An opportunity to meet and engage with mathematics alumni who have taken a variety of interesting careers paths. The purpose of this event is to give you a glimpse of possible career opportunities beyond academia. You will hear about the different experiences of DAMTP and DPMMS alumni who have chosen to work outside of academia, with an opportunity to ask questions, obtain advice, and network over lunch.

The running order of the morning will be:

  • 10.00 Arrival with Coffee/tea & pastries
  • 10.30 Talks/presentations by alumni (see speakers below)
  • 12.00 Panel discussion, chaired by Prof Nick Dorey (DAMTP)
  • 12.30 Networking lunch
  • 13.30 Finish

During this session find out what competitor analysis is, how you can do it, and what the benefits are.

Competitor analysis is a technique you can use to research your competitors' strengths and weaknesses. It's a useful way to get ideas for improving your content. You can also use competitor analysis to find gaps in your existing content.

In this session, DAMTP and DPMMS researchers who have succeeded at Grants and Fellowship applications will pass on what they know. The presentation will cover:

  • Overview of the funding landscape
  • How Fellowship applications work
  • Guidance on writing proposals
  • Guidance on the interview process

There will be an interactive element to the session, during which participants can get their 1 page proposals and CVs reviewed by academics and peers.

CLIC: Spanish: Intermediate (Intensive) (6 of 9) Finished 16:00 - 18:00 Department of Engineering, CLIC 1

This course is suitable for students who have studied or picked up Spanish at basic level and who want to revise and progress onto intermediate topics and language and to discover Hispanic culture. The main focus is learning through communication and interaction. We will get together from home with Zoom, which offers us many possibilities to watch videos, listen to audio, read texts, write (there is even a whiteboard!) and especially speak in small and large groups. ¡Te esperamos!

The Regent House is currently considering a new Dignity at Work policy (2023 edition), Grievance Policy and Code of Behaviour. This session focuses on the practical measures, knowledge and skills needed by HR professionals, Institutional administrators and others with professional responsibility for others, to create and support a culture which is courteous and professional; where we can appropriately tackle inappropriate behaviour and where there is confidence in the systems to carry that out.

It provides techniques to support colleagues, managers and Heads of Institution to build confidence to address inappropriate behaviour and other difficult situations at the earliest stage possible maximising the potential for early and sustained resolution of any potential conflict.

The session will have interactive elements, including considering a case study and potential options for resolving with the best possible outcomes for all.

CULP: Mandarin Chinese Intermediate for Business new (7 of 10) Finished 10:30 - 12:30 Judge Business School, W6.15

This course is designed for students and staff of the Judge Business School at Cambridge University, who have prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and wish to learn how to better communicate with native Chinese speakers in business settings.

For the language elements, the course is focused on key business communications in four areas: Present yourself and your business; establish business relations; business work and travel; and promote your business.

Another element of the course is to equip students to communicate effectively in the Chinese business context, through gaining a good understanding of Chinese company culture through industry case studies.
