Living our values through the way we work: a series of panel discussions for leaders and managers.
![]() This series of informal drop in sessions is designed to provide both new and more experienced leaders and managers, across all staff groups, with a safe space to share practice and discuss some of the challenges that can arise when supporting others to develop and strengthen their performance. Each session will start with Q&A with a panel of experienced managers drawn from across the University. This will be followed by the opportunity to discuss a scenario or question arising from the panel discussion in a smaller, more intimate break out room setting. The format is designed to facilitate peer support and learning. The sessions are not training sessions, although recommendations for training and other resources will be provided. Times and topics

How can the science of wellbeing help us better understand the role digital technology plays in our everyday lives? We have never spent more time on screens – for work, for leisure, and everything in between – than we do now. In what ways can we more fully understand how our social media use can affect our relation to other people, to the rest of the world, and how we feel about ourselves? This Festival of Wellbeing event will be interactive and there will be ample time for questions. About The Speakers: Professor Felicia Huppert is internationally renowned for her work on the science of well-being and the promotion of human flourishing. She is Honorary Professor at The University of Sydney, Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and Founding Director of the Well-being Institute at the University of Cambridge. Tyler Shores is the Manager of the University of Cambridge ThinkLab programme, and also researches digital distractions, social media, and the role of digital technology in our everyday lives. Now more than ever, there is a need for compassion in the workplace. But what do we mean by a ‘compassionate workplace’, and what are the benefits of being more compassionate – towards ourselves and others? In this session, Jonathan Taylor, an Occupational Psychologist from Pearn Kandola, will explore compassion at work, and discuss what we currently know about the benefits of practicing self-compassion and of compassion towards others. We will also introduce the role of the ‘compassionate leader’ in the months ahead, and share some practical ideas that you can introduce to support yourself and others. Highly recommended for people managers and anyone interested in supporting your own wellbeing and that of your colleagues. |

Spanish: Intermediate Intensive

This course is suitable for students who have studied or picked up Spanish at basic level and who want to revise and progress onto intermediate topics and language and to discover Hispanic culture. The main focus is learning through communication and interaction. We will get together from home with Zoom, which offers us many possibilities to watch videos, listen to audio, read texts, write (there is even a whiteboard!) and especially speak in small and large groups. ¡Te esperamos! |
Publishing a protocol -- stating in advance the search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, data analysis and other evaluative techniques -- is a core requirement for conducting a systematic review. The process of writing this protocol will also mean you have written in advance a large chunk of what will need to go into the finished systematic review, saving you a huge amount of time. This session will cover the contents and types of information you will need to provide in your protocol, and will give attendees the opportunity to write a draft protocol, as well as highlighting helpful resources and further support. UPDATE: Please note that this session is taking place remotely, not in the Medical Library as previously advertised. Please do not go to the Medical Library training room. You will be contacted by the training team with information about how to join the session remotely. Please note: this session may be recorded. This intensive course is designed for students who have very limited or no previous knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL). The course aims to enable students to understand and use BSL effectively for purposes of practical communication with deaf or hard of hearing people, to develop understanding of the BSL sentence syntax and to learn more about a Deaf Culture. |

Accessibility: How to Produce Accessible Documents - An Introduction (Live Online with MS Teams)

In this session we will explore the diverse ways in which we engage with the online world, and discuss mental and emotional health in the context of the different digital cultures we live in: social media, video streaming, and work collaboration platforms, among others. The concept of being Digitally Well will be introduced as a way of differentiating between digital habits that are humane and nourishing and those that are harmful and depleting, with a particular emphasis on emotional regulation and body awareness practices. Questions to think about before this session: · What are your most and least favourite online activities, and what emotional impact do they have on you? · What online activities do you tend to seek out when you are experiencing difficult emotions? About the Trainer Teodora Pavkovic is an external trainer who will be leading the course. She is a psychologist, parenting coach and digital wellness consultant who utilizes the principles of emotional intelligence, neuroscience and positive psychology to inform and improve digital wellness for individuals, families and organizations. She conducts one-on-one coaching with children and adults, facilitates talks and workshops with educators and corporates, consults with a variety of for- and non-profit organizations and speaks on expert panels and at international conferences. As a certified digital wellness educator and member of both the British and American Psychological Associations, as well as co-chair of the parenting professionals group of the Children's Screen-Time Action Network and advisory board member of several educational and mental health organizations, Teodora is committed to helping individuals and groups preserve and protect their wellbeing and relationships in this increasingly digital world. Search engine optimisation (SEO) for beginners. SEO 'is the process of improving a website or web page so it increases organic traffic quality and quantity from search engines' (Webopedia). Put simply, the goal of using SEO tactics, for many web editors across the University, is to help users find the content that they are looking for when they use a search engine. In practice, this means a webpage appears as high up the list of relevant search results as possible. To do this, content editors need to have a basic understanding of how search engines work and what users are searching for. This session will include a potted history of SEO and practical tips to use on your webpages. Attendees will also be able to ask questions. The session will begin with a quick update from the Digital Presence Programme. |

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we work forever. One of the biggest challenges that employers face is how to navigate new hybrid ways of working that deliver both improved productivity and a happier, healthier workforce. This interactive, small group session, will invite participates to share their thoughts on the last year, how we centre staff wellbeing in new ways of working and how we may overcome any obstacles along the way?
