Panel data consists of repeated observations measured at multiple time points, collected from multiple individuals, entities, or subjects over a period of time. For instance, child A’s numeracy test score in Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4. Country B’s GDP per capita in year 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Panel data analysis, as a subset of longitudinal data analysis, is particularly useful for addressing research questions that try to understand how variables change over time and how individual units differ in their responses to changes. An example research question could be: how do children's numeracy scores vary across different socioeconomic backgrounds, and how have these disparities changed over the years? Panel data analysis holds several advantages, such as (1) increased statistical efficiency, (2) more effective at controlling for unobserved individual or entity-specific effects, and (3) more capable to study the dynamics of relationships over time.

Over the course of this module, participants will learn how to work with panel data. Through hands-on exercises and practical examples, participants will gain proficiency in data manipulation, visualisation, and advanced statistical techniques tailored specifically for panel data. It is suitable for postgraduate students and researchers at any stages of their study and research. However, foundational Stata skills are required.

This course will enable the participants to practice existing spreadsheet skills and develop more advanced skills within the context of UFS data. There will be the opportunity to extract data from the system and learn to manipulate, analyse and use it for reporting purposes. The course runs over two sessions and participants will need to attend both of these sessions.

This practical programme is only for those who are scheduled to begin supervising in the next few months; it is not for those who - at this point - have a general interest in learning more about supervisions but have not arranged to start supervising.

This workshop explores the principles of good postgraduate supervision, different approaches to supervising, how to deliver feedback for best results, and the teacher/learner roles of the supervisor-supervisee relationship. It is aimed at new or experienced postgraduate supervisors looking to develop their skills in effective and inspired pedagogy.

This course, which is for non-native speakers, will cover important aspects of English pronunciation for effective academic, professional and social interaction. We will meet together as a group for approximately one hour a week and will schedule individual supervisions for personalised input to accompany the course's group input.

This course is designed for students and staff of the Judge Business School at Cambridge University, who have prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and wish to learn how to better communicate with native Chinese speakers in business settings.

For the language elements, the course is focused on key business communications in four areas: Present yourself and your business; establish business relations; business work and travel; and promote your business.

Another element of the course is to equip students to communicate effectively in the Chinese business context, through gaining a good understanding of Chinese company culture through industry case studies.

Using close reading and translation of academic texts from their particular discipline, this weekly class is intended to help research students in the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences to develop their skills in reading French documents that they have come across or may meet in their research.

The course aims to develop strategies for reading longer texts faster through close analysis, grammatical and stylistic commentary, and translation. For example, literary texts with differing editions, stories with two or more translations into English that need to be compared and evaluated, poems of challenging originality or range of allusion.

Classes will be conducted in English, but there will be many opportunities to use French and practise reading aloud.

This course introduces students to some of the legal issues around academic research involving personal data, and walks them through securing their research by conceptualizing and then assessing possible risks, followed by examining different ways to reduce those risks. This is delivered in a practical and non-technical way although there are some terms to do with risk assessment which may be unfamiliar to them. A microbiological safety cabinet (MSC) is a vital piece of equipment that helps to prevent exposure to biological hazards. All containment laboratory users and their supervisors should know how to use MSCs effectively, what the standards are for the different levels of containment, and how the facilities are managed. This course will help both users and managers understand their responsibilities in creating a safe working area and provide both theory and practical knowledge on the safe and effective use of tissue culture (Class II) cabinets.

The module will introduce students to the study of language use as a distinctive type of social practice. Attention will be focused primarily on the methodological and analytic principles of conversation analysis. (CA). However, it will explore the debates between CA and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), as a means of addressing the relationship between the study of language use and the study of other aspects of social life. It will also consider the roots of conversation analysis in the research initiatives of ethnomethodology, and the analysis of ordinary and institutional talk. It will finally consider the interface between CA and CDA.

Open Source Investigation for Academics is methodology course run by Cambridge’s Digital Verification Corps, in partnership with Cambridge’s Centre of Governance and Human Rights, Social Sciences Research Methods Programme and Cambridge Digital Humanities, as well as with the Citizen Evidence Lab at Amnesty International.

Greek is an Indo-European language and the only member of the Hellenic branch; it has been spoken in South-East Europe since early in the second millennium BC and has the longest recorded history of any Indo-European language. Ancient Greek, spanning from c. 1500 BC to 1600 AD and Modern Greek (c.1700 to the present) are two major developmental stages in the long history of the language.

Modern Greek is spoken by some 14 million people mainly in the Republic of Greece, where it is the official language and the Republic of Cyprus as one of the two official languages. It is also spoken by sizeable immigrant communities in the USA, Australia, Western Europe and elsewhere. Since 1981 is has been one of the official languages of the European Union as well.
