This course will help you understand how to critically evaluate medical research articles, with a particular emphasis on evaluating the reliability, trustworthiness, and applicability of an article in informing evidence-based practice and decision-making in a healthcare context. We will send you the article in advance, and it is a prerequisite that you read it before attending the session, and bring a copy with you to class. UPDATE: Please note that this session is taking place remotely, not in the Medical Library as previously advertised. Please do not go to the Medical Library training room. You will be contacted by the training team with information about how to join the session remotely. Please note: this session may be recorded. Departmental health and safety induction for people starting at the Department of Physics between July and end of September 2020. Session 1 of this briefing is for everyone and covers what to do in the event of an emergency, and how to report problems. There will be a short break before Session 2, which is for people carrying out practical experiments in a laboratory, doing other practical (e.g. maintenance) work, managing events or other people. Virtual - Cognos Introduction

Cognos is a reporting tool that utilises data from CUFS to provide users with additional reports and options. This introductory course is designed for new reporters - covering everything from running a report successfully as well as a number of useful tips and shortcuts. Note: This course is mandatory in order to attend either of the following two courses below. What this introductory course does not do is go through in detail the outputs of each individual report. Report outputs are explained in further detail in the courses above. |

PLEASE NOTE The Bioinformatics Team are presently teaching as many courses live online, with tutors available to help you work through the course material on a personal copy of the course environment. We aim to simulate the classroom experience as closely as possible, with opportunities for one-to-one discussion with tutors and a focus on interactivity throughout. The Ensembl Project provides a comprehensive and integrated source of annotation of, mainly vertebrate, genome sequences. This workshop offers a comprehensive practical introduction to the use of the Ensembl genome browser as well as essential background information. This course will focus on the vertebrate genomes in Ensembl, however much of what will be covered is also applicable to the non-vertebrates (plants, bacteria, fungi, metazoa and protists) in Ensembl Genomes. Please note that if you are not eligible for a University of Cambridge Raven account you will need to book or register your interest by linking here. |

Each of the Cambridge Colleges has been provided with an Excel-based spreadsheet, which enables the College to develop its own Science Based Target (SBT) for carbon reduction. The purpose of this training is to explain what data needs to be added to the tool, and how to do this, in order to generate the target. The training will also provide a brief introduction to SBTs, and demonstrate how each College can produce their 2019/20 carbon emissions report using the tool. The trainer is Chris Tuppen from Advancing Sustainability Limited. The training is being delivered via Microsoft Teams. There are 3 sessions available, these are identical sessions so please only book on ONE session |

Anyone who is a first-time user of unsealed radioactive substances is expected to attend this acquaintanceship course before they begin the work. Users of radioactive substances who are new to the University should also attend. This course also acts as a refresher for experienced users and for users from other institutions or countries. There will be time for discussion and questions at the end of the session, and a self-assessment exercise of attendees’ core knowledge will be carried out.
