PLEASE NOTE The Bioinformatics Team are presently teaching as many courses live online, with tutors available to help you work through the course material on a personal copy of the course environment. We aim to simulate the classroom experience as closely as possible, with opportunities for one-to-one discussion with tutors and a focus on interactivity throughout. This course covers concepts and strategies for working more effectively with Python with the aim of writing reusable code, using function and libraries. Participants will acquire a working knowledge of key concepts which are prerequisites for advanced programming in Python e.g. writing modules and classes. Note: this course is the continuation of the Introduction to Solving Biological Problems with Python; participants are expected to have attended the introductory Python course and/or have acquired some working knowledge of Python. This course is also open to Python beginners who are already fluent in other programming languages as this will help them to quickly get started in Python. Please note that if you are not eligible for a University of Cambridge Raven account you will need to book or register your interest by linking here. |

We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys The Simplifying our Processes team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand. |

Green Labs has teamed up with Eppendorf to provide refresher training on cold storage best practice for you to apply to your own lab.
Content delivered will not be promotional and staff who use other brands are equally encouraged to attend. A similar event was run in-person in 2019. This one will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams and is not space limited, so your whole lab should sign-up and attend too! Publishing a protocol -- stating in advance the search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, data analysis and other evaluative techniques -- is a core requirement for conducting a systematic review. The process of writing this protocol will also mean you have written in advance a large chunk of what will need to go into the finished systematic review, saving you a huge amount of time. This session will cover the contents and types of information you will need to provide in your protocol, and will give attendees the opportunity to write a draft protocol, as well as highlighting helpful resources and further support. UPDATE: Please note that this session is taking place remotely, not in the Medical Library as previously advertised. Please do not go to the Medical Library training room. How can you link the work you’ve already done with what you are now able to do within the constraints to write a thesis that holds together as one piece of work? The guest speaker will be Dr Geraint Wyn Story who is director of Cambridge Training Associates. He delivers training and development workshop for researchers internationally, including workshops on Project Management and Creativity. Geraint was a Researcher Developer here at Cambridge from 2008 - 2014, worked in biotech from 2006 - 2008 and did his PhD in Plant Molecular Biology in the Department of Plant Sciences on the Downing Site. |
