Equality and Diversity Essentials CANCELLED 14:15 - 17:00 Disability Resource Centre, Bridget's Meeting Room


A bespoke training workshop for staff and colleagues. The aim is to provide a basic background in equalities law and good practice in relation to equality and diversity in the workplace. This workshop provides an introduction to what equality and diversity means individually, personally or professionally. It provides knowledge on basic principles and concepts, relevant legislation and the University's policies and procedures.

After completing the workshop you will be able to understand the principles behind equality and diversity legislation, including the new Equality Act 2010, and the implications of breaching it. The workshop will also consider a range of ways in which individuals can help break down barriers to equality and provide useful information about what to do if you feel you are being discriminated against or treated unfairly at the University.

This workshop will highlight examples of good practice for progressing gender equality from within the University and from other institutions. It will also look at how to create a SMART action plans for Athena SWAN related initiatives.

This briefing session will provide more information about the Level 5 in Leadership and Management programme, which will start in February. The programme develops a range of management skills. It is highly participative and there is a strong emphasis on applying new learning to your work situation for the benefit of your team and your department.

Our goal is to understand the successes and challenges that staff face from all cultural backgrounds when working in the University. We hope this exercise will help us to identify good practice and areas in which the University could perhaps make improvements.

11th Annual Disability Lecture Finished 17:30 - 19:30 St John's College, Palmerston Room


Clinical psychologist Dr Rachel Perkins will speak about creating mentally healthy environments. She develops and influences the development of mental health services nationally and internationally and her work has had significant impact on the lives of service users returning to work. Dr Perkins lives and works with a mental health condition, was 2010 Mind Champion of the Year and was awarded an OBE for services to mental health.
