Career Development Workshop

Description


This highly interactive session will enable you to step back from the ‘day-to-day’ and focus on your career objectives, short and long term. You will have the opportunity to explore what development opportunities you could grasp and what networks might assist you. You will also have the opportunity to consider what’s holding you back and how you can overcome these barriers to fulfill your career aspirations. You will leave the session with a personal career plan in draft format, that you will be able to explore in greater depth.

Target audience
  • Assistant and Academic-Related staff
  • We particularly welcome women and BAME staff
  • This programme is not suitable for Research staff/postdoctoral research staff. Please refer to the University Careers Service for information on specific careers development support for this staff group.
Prerequisites

Participants are expected to create a visual representation of their own career pathway to bring with them to the Career Development Workshop. Five examples are available.

Aims
  • Explore own career aspirations, priorities and goals
  • Identify and address potential barriers to career progression
  • Explore a range of options for moving forward
  • Plan and prepare a career development plan
  • Enhance knowledge and awareness of own strengths and development gaps
