IN PERSON - Cognos Introduction

This is a classroom version of the Cognos Introduction held at Greenwich House - All delegates will need to bring a laptop (docking stations, monitors, external keyboard and mice will be available in the room)

Please note - there is no parking available at Greenwich House. The Madingley Park and Ride is a 15 minute walk and the Universal Bus stops on Madingley Road.

Cognos is a reporting tool that utilises data from CUFS to provide users with additional reports and options. This introductory course is designed for new reporters - covering everything from running a report successfully as well as a number of useful tips and shortcuts.

Note: This course is mandatory in order to attend either of the following two courses below.

• GL Part 2: Reporting in the General Ledger
• Grants Part 2: Grant reports in Cognos

What this introductory course does not do is go through in detail the outputs of each individual report. Report outputs are explained in further detail in the courses above.

Cannot make any dates? See the on-demand online version of the course. Completion of this course will count as Cognos attendance for the purpose of acceptance onto the above courses. You should ask your Key Contact to request Cognos access for you, prior to working through the on-demand material.

• Users of the Grants and/or General Ledger modules in CUFS who would like to access the improved functionality in Cognos

• Users who wish to attend either:

• GL Part 2: Reporting in the General Ledger

• Grants Part 2: Grant reports in Cognos

Your booking will remain 'provisional' until your Cognos access has been granted. Cognos access must be requested via your Departmental Key Contact. A list of Key Contacts can be found here; https://ufs.admin.cam.ac.uk/files/key_contacts.pdf

Cognos access typically takes 3 working days to fully process, so it is best advised to speak to your Key Contact as soon as possible.

• Log in and run a report
• Navigate around the screen using the icons
• Set up various short cuts
• Report view (Saving your own selection parameters)
• Schedule reports

• To give you the confidence to run reports in Cognos
• To give you the foundational knowledge for our other Cognos-related courses

• Trainer led demo
• Practical exercises
• Q&A to review the material and ask any questions

12:00 - 12:30

The last 30 minutes will be optional, this time can be used to practice running reports relevant to you with support from the trainer.
