A series of 30 minute drop-in sessions to talk with one of the Simplifying our Processes team. We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys. Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the Simplifying our Processes team. These are not workshops or taught sessions. The Simplifying our Processes team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand. |

Delegates will have the opportunity to practice using the techniques that they learn via exercises designed to be enjoyable and thought provoking. |

Inclusive Leadership Programme

This programme is designed to support leaders and managers across the University (in academic, research and professional service posts) with the skills and insights they need to lead others effectively. It will enable participants to reflect on their current leadership style and provide techniques they can use to effectively manage a diverse range of perspectives and create an inclusive culture across the University. Those with responsibility for others have a key role to play in shaping a positive working environment, supporting progression and ensuring equality, including pay equality. Given the University's strategic priorities, it is critical that leaders and managers understand the impact of their decisions throughout the employment timeline and know how to reduce the risk of sex, race or other discrimination, whether explicit or implicit. The programme is delivered in partnership with Pearn Kandola, experts in evidence-based inclusive leadership development. |

The Unix shell (command line) is a powerful and essential tool for modern researchers, in particular those working in computational disciplines such as bioinformatics and large-scale data analysis. In this course we will explore the basic structure of the Unix operating system and how we can interact with it using a basic set of commands. You will learn how to navigate the filesystem, manipulate text-based data and combine multiple commands to quickly extract information from large data files. You will also learn how to write scripts, use programmatic techniques to automate task repetition, and communicate with remote servers (such as High Performance Computing servers). The training room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelchair or level access available to this level. This IOSH approved 2 day training course ‘Work Equipment and Machinery Safety’ has been devised for workshop managers/technicians and risk assessors. This course will use practical sessions within a workshop and group exercises. |

Fire Warden (classroom) training will give clear instruction of the roles of designated fire wardens and assist fire safety managers to comply with current fire safety legislation. Use of Fire Extinguisher (outdoor practical) training provides hands on experience in the correct use of portable fire extinguishers. |

Fire Safety Awareness and Use of Fire Extinguishers Training (practical session not provided)

The Fire Safety Awareness section (classroom based) will raise attendees' awareness of fire safety and assist fire safety managers to comply with current fire safety legislation. Use of Fire Extinguishers training (outdoor practical) provides hands on experience in the correct use of portable fire extinguishers. University staff working in embedded accommodation at Addenbrooke's Hospital should attend the NHS' fire training for its tenants. This will cover general fire safety awareness specific to the main hospital. (See related courses below for further details.) |

A course specifically for University of Cambridge staff and students. Attendees will learn how to search medical/healthcare databases accessed with a Raven login (such as Medline and Embase) effectively and efficiently, to learn how to save searches and references, and to create and maintain a bibliography. This course is delivered at an introductory/refresher level, and assumes you have had no prior training in how to search databases. All attendees are required to have a Raven login. NHS staff wanting to learn similar material should book onto our 'Getting the Best Results - Improving Your Database Searching' course instead. This course will help you understand how to critically evaluate medical research articles, with a particular emphasis on evaluating the reliability, trustworthiness, and applicability of an article in informing evidence-based practice and decision-making in a healthcare context. We will send you the article in advance, and it is a prerequisite that you read it before attending the session, and bring a copy with you to class. Attendees will learn how to construct protein-protein interaction networks and subsequently use these to overlay large-scale data such as that obtained through RNA-Seq or mass-spec proteomics. The course will focus on giving attendees hands-on experience in the use of one of the most commonly used open source Network Visualisation Platforms, Cytoscape. The course will also access and analyse the data through Cytoscape apps, including IntAct app. Please note that if you are not eligible for a University of Cambridge Raven account you will need to book or register your interest by linking here. |

The University’s one-year Rights Retention pilot has taught the library a great deal about the practicalities of supporting self-archiving through rights retention. In a meeting in November 2022, the Research Policy Committee considered the findings from the pilot so far and endorsed the development of a self-archiving policy for researchers.
