A contextual, informative and interactive webinar-style online event to provide guidance and helpful techniques for mentors enrolled on the UIS Mentoring Scheme and anyone interested in mentoring in general, to support their colleagues and understand how to develop to be an effective mentor.
Day two of Learning at Work Week with University Information Services, will be presented by Dr David Hall, Cheif Executive Officer and founder of The Ideas Centre Ltd.
Dave will share his perspective on creative problem solving and he hopes you will be inspired to take on some of his approaches.
Ron Chambers, Kate Livingstone and Abraham Martin will be talking about identifying some best practices for our effective collaboration
Steve Hoensch, Head of Frontline Services at UIS will share his experience of collaborating with multiple institutions and colleagues with the work that went on to open the Anne McLaren Building as a testing centre facility during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Guest Speaker Carrie Goucher, Founder of Onefish Twofish Ltd, will show you how to have proactive meetings and be creative while doing so.
Our Learning at Work Week programme will conclude with a panel discussion to discuss how we can implement creative problem-solving at the University.
Panelists: Ian Leslie (Director, UIS), Dave Hall (CEO, The Ideas Centre Ltd), Linda Spinks (Process improvement Manager- ourcambridge) and Carrie Goucher (Founder of Onefish Twofish Ltd.) Moderator: Will Russell ( Enterprise Service Manager)
Our first session to kick off Learning at Work Week at the University, will be presented by Ian Hosking, a User Researcher at UIS, and Bill Nicholl, University Senior Lecturer in Design & Technology Education.
They will inspire you to think creatively and explain how to be an effective problem solver in your work.
Part of our series of inspiring sessions for Learning at Work Week with University Information Services (UIS), we welcome back Ian Hosking, User Researcher at UIS and Bill Nicholl a Senior Lecturer at the University.
They will encourage you to explore creative thinking to build a creative organization and workplace.
Find out how the Digital Presence Programme's work around metadata and related concepts to improve the University's websites and digital content.
This work includes the 'Intranet in a Box' project, which aims to provision University institutions or departments with SharePoint sites that will provide common tooling and templating to improve defragmentation across the University.
Data, including managing common data and improving our approach to information architecture, is crucial for this project and other University systems.
This event is hosted by a panel of experts on the Intranet in a Box project. We aim to provide a forum for technical staff to learn about the project's framework for managing domain-level and institution-level data, and how it relates to the greater information architecture of University systems. Katya Samoylova from the Academic and Financial Planning and Analysis team (AFPA, Finance Division) will also provide an overview of their work around data governance.
Topics
- Technical capability for SharePoint data management
- Domain-level changes, including a summary of advice we're providing to content editors
- Institution-level changes
- Information architecture across University systems
This event is aimed at IT and technical staff who are already familiar with metadata, taxonomies and related concepts. If you are not already aware of these concepts and what they are used for, you may find the related event useful: Content Community event - Metadata for content editors.
A recording of this event will be available on the Content Community SharePoint site for anyone who cannot attend.

- 14:15: Some Light in the Cloud - Azure at Cambridge Enterprise
Dr. Paul Seabright (Deputy Director) and Matt Whiting (CTO) of Cambridge Enterprise <http://www.enterprise.cam.ac.uk> will share some of the ups and downs of their transition from on-premise to the cloud, which has been more rapid and radical than many of our institutions. As the University's knowledge transfer organisation, Cambridge Enterprise uses commercial avenues to develop the outputs of University research into successful products and services that benefit society. Their lessons and caveats may help others consider the practicalities when implementing a 'cloud first' strategy.
