09:30	Using the Ensembl Genome Browser Finished 09:30 - 17:30 Bioinformatics Training Room, Craik-Marshall Building The Ensembl Project provides a comprehensive and integrated source of annotation of, mainly vertebrate, genome sequences. This workshop offers a comprehensive practical introduction to the use of the Ensembl genome browser as well as essential background information. This course will focus on the vertebrate genomes in Ensembl, however much of what will be covered is also applicable to the non-vertebrates (plants, bacteria, fungi, metazoa and protists) in Ensembl Genomes. The training room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelchair or level access available to this level. You will learn how to read published results critically, to do simple multivariate modelling yourself, and to interpret and write about your results intelligently. Half of the module is based in the lecture theatre, and covers the theory behind multivariate regression; the other half is lab-based, in which students will work through practical exercises using statistical software. To get the most out of the course, you should also expect to spend some time between sessions having fun by building your own statistical models. 	CULP: French Basic for Academic Purposes (LAP) (6 of 15) Finished 10:00 - 11:30 17 Mill Lane Teaching Room 1 Using close reading and translation of academic texts from their particular discipline, this weekly class is intended to help research students in the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences to develop their skills in reading French documents that they have come across or may meet in their research. The course aims to develop strategies for reading longer texts faster through close analysis, grammatical and stylistic commentary, and translation. For example, literary texts with differing editions, stories with two or more translations into English that need to be compared and evaluated, poems of challenging originality or range of allusion. 	Becoming a Productive Writer (Life Sciences) Finished 10:00 - 12:00 Student Services Centre, Exams Hall, Room AG03d As a researcher, you are expected not only to run experiments, but also write regularly. Establishing a writing regular routine can be difficult, especially when experiments are running well. This half day workshop will explore the different writing techniques, tips and tricks, productive writers use regularly to keep on track with their writing commitments.
	The Viva Examination Review (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences) Finished 10:00 - 13:00 Student Services Centre, Exams Hall, Room AG03c The last hurdle, your viva examination, but what will it be like? What will the examiners ask? How can you prepare for it? This workshop provides participants with an insight into the process, and helps them understand what to expect within a doctoral degree viva, including a discussion on the type and nature of questions most-likely to be posed by examiners. This course is not suitable for students in their first year, and we strongly advise against students in their second year from attending.

Learners will have a chance to practice talking about a variety of topics so whether you are learning from a resource or a class, you could use it as a chance to practice talking about a topic you have learned or alternatively, you could take it as an opportunity to branch out and experiment with discussing a new idea or issue that interests you. 	Managing Stress in Times of Uncertainty Finished 14:00 - 15:00 Department of Veterinary Medicine, Lecture Theatre 2 Stress and its partner anxiety are part of life for us all. In fact, without them, we would not achieve nearly as much as we do. However, too much stress can become problematic. In these times of uncertainty, it is more important than ever to prioritise our mental health, to recognise when we and others are struggling, and to find strategies to help us manage its impact. This talk will put stress and anxiety in context and offer ways in which to think about and manage their effect on us both physiologically and mentally. Presenter: Ashley Meggitt MSc Ashley is an associate lecturer and research psychologist working at Anglia Ruskin University. He holds a master's degree in psychology and is studying for his PhD. He spent 25 years of his first career working within the Cambridge University and College environment and is well versed with many of the challenges this brings. He has also spent the last 5 years volunteering for a mental health charity. Please note: Parking is not available on site. U-Bus stops in front.

While learning the basics of the language, you will be able to view and appreciate the ancient as well as modern character of the lands and peoples. These courses will not be formally assessed and students who attend regularly (12/15 sessions) will receive a Certificate of Attendance. CULP’s Introduction to Language and Culture Hebrew course, designed for absolute beginners, promises to offer a welcoming and exciting start to your Hebrew studies. Both spoken and written Modern Hebrew will be taught two hours per week during Michaelmas and Lent terms. You will be given the opportunity to express yourself, read and write in the target language, and develop your ability to understand native speakers. Realistic amounts of homework will be given and students will be encouraged to avail themselves of Hebrew media within the Language Centre. It is therefore critical that everyone in Cambridge should develop understanding of the impact of culture on their everyday intercultural encounters.
