This course is designed for students, staff at Cambridge University and members of the public whose Chinese level is at about HSK 3, ideally suited to those students who have completed the CULP Chinese Basic 2 course or have taken Chinese at GCSE Level.

Listening/Reading: Gain a good understanding of the oral tradition of poetry and folk song traditions as well as their linguistic and poetic interpretations.
Speaking: Present lyrics-reading or singing and poetry-reading with a good degree of understanding, clarity and expression.
Writing: Copy a classical poem or create a new poem.
The Course will introduce students to the following subject-specific skills at lower intermediate level:
- Understand selected classical poems by poets from Tang Dynasty (618 - 907);
- Motivate learners to improve their language skills and further develop an interest in Chinese language;
- Enrich learners’ understanding of Chinese culture and history;
- Encourage collaborative learning among learners;
- Develop spoken fluency whilst using appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures in poetry-reading;
- Acquire an understanding of the main aspects related cultural and historical backgrounds of the selected poems;
- Improve learners’ writing skills, with an emphasis on their creative writing skills
