Introduction to Access and Benefit Sharing(ABS)
This course provides an introduction to access and benefit-sharing of genetic resource that originate from overseas.

Introductory Course to the Nagoya Protocol
This course provides an introduction to the major components of the Nagoya Protocol.
Please see the syllabus for further details and sign up on the InforeMEA platform.

If you wish, you can take a quiz at the end of the both courses to assess your learning progress. You are required to answer at least 80% of the assessment questions correctly in order to obtain a course certificate.

Target audience

Open everyone. Most applicable to researchers working with genetic material (and associated traditional knowledge) that originate from overseas and may fall under ABS instruments such as the Nagoya Protocol, particularly those seeking additional information beyond the University ABS and Nagoya Protocol webpage

  4. Identify the key stakeholders involved in ABS;
  5. Describe how ABS works;
  6. Describe the current situation with regards to ABS;
  7. Identify the main policy milestones on ABS under the Convention on Biological Diversity
  8. Explain why it is important for countries to ratify the Nagoya Protocol

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the origins and main objective of the Nagoya Protocol.
  2. Identify the core components and mechanisms established by the Nagoya Protocol Content
