Move beyond iDiscover and discover the world of databases. Using Scopus, this session will guide you through basic and advanced search functions, finding relevant content for your research and setting alerts to keep on top of new material

Prerequisites

Attendees may wish to familiarise themselves with the basics of building a search strategy before attending. More information can be found on the Physical Sciences LibGuide or my attending the Building an Effective Search Strategy session.

Objectives

At the end of this session learners will be able to:

  • Perform basic and advanced searches on key scholarly databases and apply these principles to their own research projects.
  • Use databases to perform functions including setting alerts, exporting data to a reference manager and analysing results to identify patterns in the literature.
  • Use databases to identify key contributors to a particular field of research and track their output over time.
