Prerequisites

Description

This programme aims to explore the complex leadership skills required by Heads of Institution and those in equivalent roles, in support of the University’s mission of achieving world-class research and teaching.

Introductory Session
This joint session with both programme cohorts includes a presentation from the Vice-Chancellor.

Module 1: Senior Leadership within the HE context
The first session includes presentations from senior leaders and previous participants of SLP2. It considers classic to contemporary leadership thinking and its application to the nature and importance of senior leadership within the Higher Education context.

Module 2: Leading Strategy
The session will consider the challenges in leading a department/team, including allocation of resources and setting priorities. It will also include presentations on leading others in a higher education environment from the PVC for University and Community Engagement, and the Registrary.

Module 3: Leading Others through Change
This session builds on Module 2 and considers the change leadership aspect of strategic leadership. It includes approaches to leading change, engaging others and dealing with resistance, as well as presentations from the Change and Programme Management Office (CPMO) and past SLP2 participants on their experience of leading change.

Module 4: Leading One Conversation at a Time
The session uses professional actors to practise and prepare for typically challenging leadership conversations. It offers the opportunity for participants to be coached as they practice in a safe and controlled environment.
