General induction for users of the Physics of Medicine (PoM) building. This includes a guided tour of the facility.
Participants must have started the access process for PoM with the Rutherford Hub before booking onto this course. Participants will gain access to PoM only after successfully completing the Physics H&S Induction - see "Related Courses" below.
A short (10 minute) briefing covering the biological and other hazards to watch out for when walking through the PoM or carrying out independent non-experimental work, such as maintenance, cleaning, repairs to equipment, giving first aid, taking items through to Maxwell and vice versa, OR accompanying others who need authorised access (e.g. contractors).
If you will be located at the PoM or doing experimental work, you should attend the full PoM Induction instead (see "Related Courses").

T’ai Chi is a gentle and meditative form of exercise. Practice not only improves our physical health, including posture, balance, breathing and circulation, but helps to calm the mind and relieve stress.
Alison Warlow has been practising T'ai Chi and qigong since 1999, and teaching since 1994. She teaches a number of weekly classes in and around Cambridge, and is a registered instructor with the T'ai Chi Union of Great Britain.
Come and enjoy a free Tai Chi class. There is much more to tai chi than one can see, and virtually no one can describe such a complex art in one simple sentence. It can be a meditation and an integral exercise for all parts of the body and the mind. It brings tranquillity and helps you think more clearly. Numerous studies have shown tai chi improves muscular strength, flexibility, fitness, improve immunity, relieve pain and improve quality of life. http://taichiofcambridge.com/
THE BRAINFIT WORKOUT (TM) is a stress reducing positivity workout using movement, music and meditation with powerful affirmations.
We know that stress is a major culprit in the onset of health problems and diseases. It's also the reason many people are unable to lose bodyfat, especially aorund the mid section. Negative thought patterns and self-talk affect the whole body chemistry so THE BRAINFIT WORKOUT (TM) helps retrain that inner voice using powerful affirmations and mantras. The organisers say "it is truly the next generation of Group Fitness class fusing beautifully mind, body and spirit".
If you battle negative self-talk, suffer from psychological or physical stress, need to lower the fat storing and stress hormone Cortisol, want a softer approach to fitness, want a holistic approach to health and fitness, enjoy having fun in a group exercise class, you may benefit from this class.
The purpose of this programme is to strengthen resilience in individuals.
The programme places personal resilience in the context of the workplace and explores the influences, techniques and approaches that help individuals develop and sustain personal control and resilience at work.
Its emphasis is on the prevention of stress with individuals taking responsibility themselves to approach challenging situations with robust attitudes so they remain resilient and also grow their resilience further.
A talk by Dr Miriam Lynn
This thought provoking session enables staff to gain an understanding of the importance of recognising our bias and to begin thinking about the impact of our own bias in relation to the decisions we make and how we interact with colleagues and students.
Yogalates is an ever-increasing popular exercise inspired by Pilates and Yoga. Combining both excercises allows you to practice and improve your own limits; pushing your body, while opening up your mind.
